I found that this had quite an ill-omened atmosphere, if one can put it like that. As if something awful was going to happen. This feeling was fed by the comforting ways of the sensitive brother, in contrast to the, at times, downright disgusting other one. Also probably, the time-pressure of a most likely dieing mother on the backseat.
Peronally, I'd have wished for a slight twist of events or a development of the characters.
The serenity in the end made up for that a bit though.
