Some old growth fir on the northern end of Vancouver island, mixed in with the trees that are second growth due to the Huricanne in 1908. Creeks on one side and CMT zones on the other, and nothing is alowed in those zones, it was challenging to get these 250' plus trees into the falling boundry but well worth the experience.

  • Wow.. Have you felled any firs over 300 feet? I heard they used to be pretty common in lowland valley's back in the day.

  • These ones are around 200' we get some spuce that are 300' still but its rare, they definately were common back in the day. Those fir in the vid are big for the north end of Vancouver island but the further you go south they get bigger, still lots of protected areas to check em out.

  • I imagine if you had your hand in that cut and the wind shifted it would nip off your fingers quite neatly.

  • that is true i am 22 and the doctor is telling me to quit or i will not have any joints left in my body

  • Falling timber is a young man's game...eventually you get too old to run and the small bumps and bangs don't go away so easily...I put in 16 years and then took an administrative job.

  • damn good cutter!

  • Awesome, that is one tough job

  • god i would die if i could not fall timber
