No one ever said that replacing oil would ever be easy or come from one magic bullet source. And frankly, since when is rehab for any drug a quick recovery?

There will be a need for many solutions for many different types of lifestyles.  At best pedal power would be like putting out a hat and asking everyone to toss one or two kilowatts in. Still, one or two kilos from everyone is nothing to sneeze at. It might not be enough but it sure is a start.

ridiculous to think you can substitute the 'old fashioned'grid by 'inventive green shiny' pedalpower. apparently noone has a clue how little power one person can produce. and even less on the total energy that is needed to produce these machines. a lifetime of cycling wouldnt recuperate the sunk energy.

Jock Brandis and his bicycle or hand powered peanut sheller for Mali and Uganda which won a Popular Mechanics award should inspire people to think of those for whom pedal power is a strong component of their lives, rather than a quirkish hobby. He innovated so that food could be produced more easily

Haha, I used to wire my portable stereo up to the dynamo on my bike when I was 12, 26 years ago! (needed some tricky filtering) How about using this idea to help power air con or lighting in a gymnasium???

a great initiative. I've been thinking about the posibillities in this for a while, but everyone i talk about it to just think im crazy, lol. Just imagine all the energy that could be saved i if this could be used in gyms, for example.
