**Trigger warning**
Sonia has worked so hard for this: a healthy family and a normal life in an average American town. But on a night that should have been like any other, she is forced to make an impossible choice that could shatter her family's dreams forever.

Keep your daughter safe -- or keep your family together? What call would you make?

This video is the centerpiece of Breakthrough's #ImHere campaign for immigrant women's rights. Go to www.breakthrough.tv/imhere to learn more.

Isn't you saying this comment already showing a decline in the American Dream? This story shows an immigrant family who came here for a better life...and their daughter was abused. Instead of putting a stop to this kind of violence, the family is silenced. The American Dream no longer exists for families like this one. Smh.

I am so sorry Cici. These laws suck, and my heart goes out to both you and your mother. Hopefully, these laws will change to prevent such horrendous choices in the future. For now all we can do is stand up and demand our leaders actually do something to help those in need.

There's always another way out, Nobody is holding a gun to the heads of these people forcing them to illegally immigrate to the US, I've got the privilege of being born in a really nice beautiful country and it really sucks that not everyone has that, but that doesn't nullify the rule of law, borders are there for very good reasons, If i was in that situation I would probably go elsewhere in mexico or at least employ the semi legal tactic or trying to have my wife give birth in america..

Are we empty souls? Walk a mile in their shoes! You're a poor farmer in a small village, no phones/electricity. The drug cartel attacked near-by villages. Girls were kidnapped, raped or brutally murdered. They'll come soon. A coyote can take you & your 12yr old daughter across the border. You had a little $ saved through the years, not much but it will do. There's no other way out. The Mexican Army is corrupt! Even sold weapons to the cartel, they won't help! Not justifiable? Just unfortunate?
