Here's a lovely jingle/anthem for WMAL radio in Washington DC. I set it to Kodachrome footage from 1949. If anyone has an early WMAL logo, I'd love to include it in the film.
What a lovely and nostalgic blast from the past this is. This is very much the way I feel about WLW in Cincinnati. My brother and I used like in our beds at night and at midnight listen to the chanting monks at Mount Saint Mary's Seminary back in the 1950's. This is great.
Thanks very much to CineGraphic for this vintage treasure! If anyone has it would of course be nice to hear the quicker version, too! PS: "WMAL.... have-a-groovy-weekend!"
I used to hear this from my clock radio every night at midnight when I was in high school. As I heard this, I was anticipating the voice of Bill Mayhugh to usher in the overnight.
I grew up in DC--moved there in 1942 and lived there until 1972. Although I have lived far, far away from DC for 40 years, I'm still very homesick! This video brings back a lot of those memories--the trolleys, shopping on F Street, seeing the Old Vic Company perform "MacBeth" at the National Theater when I was a junior in high school, having lunch at the Neptune Room....I know things are vastly different there now, but I sure miss those days!
Grew up in DC area in the mid 60s. I remember this. Very nice, thanks for the memories.
There was a shorter, quicker version of this same jingle that they would use too but I can't seem to find it anywhere? Anybody know where it could be found? Thanks again.

Excellent video! One of my favorite radio jingles of all time, and I'm glad I lived in the area when WMAL was at its peak.

If this doesn't make you proud to be a Washingtonian, you might as well just move to Baltimore or something.

I just love this jingle. Can anyone tell me how to get a copy of this?
