  • There were many six-wheelers with 4 wheels at the rear (Williams, Ferrari...) but they never raced officially, they were only used at tests.

  • Thats wicked! Is it still driven by Martin Stretton?

  • Hi. It is owned and driven by Mauro Pane, an italian driver. As you can see it almost hit my toes! I have tons of videos and pics from that event, in case you need them. Bye.

  • What a great car. It looks better than my girlfriend. Derek Gardner was a genius.

  • Tyrrell P-34, the greatest idea of an F1 car!

  • HA!

Now THATS how you fuckin park!

  • @alexopm Sorry if i answer of a Post of 1 years ago but the Williams six-wheels were use (not in F1)

  • @Ruupie1982 I read an article about a P34 used at the Goodwood festival. The lucky driver said he couldn't believe how much grip the car had and ranted and praised the design to the heavens because it could "corner like a freight train." I still sometimes wonder how badly the Ferrari F2001 would have smashed the competition if it had 6 wheels instead of 4. Hmm...

  • @cnycarnut No. The problem was Goodyear was the only tire maker that agreed to build the tires for the car. Then, of course, costs escalated. Ken Tyrrell axed the project and went back to four wheels. Still, that hasn't stopped the teams from trying: Williams and Ferrari both attempted their own 6-wheelers but they used four wheels in the rear. The maintenance costs are always a nightmare that the teams can't get around.

  • @cnycarnut It think it was just a case of technology marching on. Tires got better so did aero.

  • one of the Stunticons from Transformers is a Tyrrell P34.

  • Despite the enormous expense of running a 6-wheeler (the tires are always custom built for that design) the test drivers were always blown away by how much grip the cars had. Williams did attempt a 6-wheeler project but the wheels were in the rear. I don't know if it was a 4wd.

  • was this particular car banned or were the rules just reworded so they couldnt do it after one of the seasons.
