James Griffin performs with Terry Sylvester and John Ford Coley as Soft Rock Cafe in Canada on November 02, 2001. The song was made popular by The Carpenters, which many people know. What many might not know was that this was the theme song for the movie Lovers and Other Strangers, and that James won an Academy Award for writing this song with Robb Royer and Fred Karlin.

  • I found Bread before I found Led Zeppelin... I had their complete collection of LPs...vinyl...black gold...and I was only 11... I wore out the discs and my needle, too. What an unbelievable collection of talent. I got to see them in 1976 and am very thankful for that. I just wish they had stayed together longer. Thank you, Bread.

  • Thanks for the comments - you were lucky to see them in 1976 - I didn't get to see them until 1996!

  • I remember Jimmy setting at the piano at a friend's house singing this for them. We were doing a demo out there at the studio . And i almost cried . I always do when i think and miss my buddy James A Griffin.

  • Hi - I agree - he is sorely missed.

  • God bless you Jimmy!!

  • Amen!

  • Wonderful.

  • How lovely is this. Never lost his voice at all. Never hit a bum note. Absolutely fantastic.

  • wow how do professional ^^usicians do that? to be able to take a song and tweak the song a little so it fits their voice without ruining the ^^elody of the song? I LOVE His take on it and his version. I always wondered how a guy would sound like if they were to sing this beautiful song fro^^ karen. I wanna learn how to do that.

  • @brian6078 when you say 'this song' --where is it to listen to?

  • @headacherack Do you know who sings this song from 1971.I have a U.K. Plexium record. The record only states the writers name but does not say who sings it.I know it is not Karen Carpenter or Shirley Bassey. It has only acc guitar plucking and a female singer. She whispers some of the lines.I heard this version just before Karen Carpenters rendition.

  • @furgurl - I have this song on a old U.K. Plexium Records, but they say who wrote this;but not who sings it.It is not Karen Carpenter,or Shirley Bassey.Maybe you remember it?It is sung by a female she whispers some of the lines and has beautiful accostic guitar plucking.1971 record.
