  • Yobretto you are the one making stuff up cause he never says anything about ending women's sports, he says that millions in student fees are going for athletics instead of classes. Most Cal professors agree with him too cause they all voted in a big meeting to change this.

  • this guy is just making stuff up. except when he says he's not savvy. he's right on about that. most cal professors can think critically. this guy sounds like a buffoon here and is completely ignorant of the economic costs and benefits of athletics.

if he had his way it would be the immediate end of all women's sports. he's for a world where only men's football and basketball continue and every opportunity for women ends tomorrow.

  • It's great that he has the courage to help the students with this problem. It's not fair to have all the student have to pay for this when only a few benefit. UC raises fees by 32% and spends millions on intercollegiate athletics while classes are cut.

  • He is disconnected from campus, too bad. He seems like a troubled academic who was picked on by jocks in high school.

  • Candidskeptic, he doesn't blame the sports program for the crisis and he doesn't condemn Tedford. Iofthestorm123 is right that student fees going to pay for this is bad.

  • Are there any Political Science/Economics/Business professors that can give their two cents on this matter? Because this guy doesn't cut it.

It's a major oversimplification just blaming the intercollegiate sports program here on campus for this crisis.

And of course he condemns Coach Tedford at the end for being the highest payed state employee. It's not his fault that football is an extremely lucrative institution. But that won't stop another leftist from demonizing a rich person.

  • I'm sorry. What I meant was that I was agreeing with the video. Personally, I feel that in outrageous situations like this, vulgarity may be an understandable response, if one that is likely to be effective at all. However, this is a youtube comment, and no one wants to read a thesis on what UC should do to fix this clearly suboptimal situation. I will concede that my reaction was not the best, but squabbling about profanity on a youtube comment is not the best use of a professor's time either:P

  • Mr. Storm, vulgarity is not helpful, especially when it does not clarify your point at all. What does your pronoun "that" refer to?

Did you mean that the presentation depicted in the video was inaccurate or are you agreeing that the abuses alleged in the presentation are bad? If it is inaccuracy you allege, then muster some evidence. If you are agreeing, then it might be better to do so in a more civilized way.

  • Student fees should not go toward the Athletic Study Center... especially at a time when professors are unable to assign papers because there is not enough money to pay grad. students to grade them.

I was a student athlete at CAL and witnessed much abuse of the free services provided to athletes.

If CAL football is such a money maker with it's No. 6 rankings this season, then they should foot the bill, for their own perks, not the entire student body.

  • That is bullshit.
