My kitty became an indoor/outdoor cat one day after she got out of the house by accident.
She's a sneaky little kitty. She'd hide behind something and shoot out, making a bee line for the door every time it opened. One time, she actually made it outside.

What about just walking your cat around the lawn outside or even around the neighborhood, with a harness? You need to train him/her first though.

Get a toy feather and he can attack the damn thing just like it was an outdoor bird. Believe me indoor cats can be very happy if you get involved with them. I know because I have two indoor cats who feel like hunters after we play.

I couldn't keep my cat Siruis inside if I tried. He loves the great outdoors, and I think it would be cruel if I locked him inside all day...

A cat can't climb trees and chase mice if it doesn't go outside. A cat locked in a house is a sad beast.
