The creators used The Forbidden City as a reference for how they wanted the ideal Ba Sing Se palace to look like. Also, Chongzhen was the last ruling emperor of Ming Dynasty China; it you be hypocritical for an emperor to revolt against his own throne right? Hence, Long Feng would not resemble Chongzhen, BUT more of a Li ZiCheng, because he lead the rebellion against the ruling power of Great Ming Dynasty.

yeah well Avatar is actually historically accurate. it takes most of its stories from things that happened in history itself. if you watch the series, you can point out different things that really happened.
