  • @undertake782 It isn't called British Petroleum anymore, it changed its name to BP over a decade ago due to the fact that it is now a multinationally owned company and not owned by Britain, stop blaming us because you heard it's our fault from ur biased and ignorant news programs xD

  • Harrier is difficult to fly yes but just goes to show it's all about training, us brits flew it in the Falklands from carriers in terrible weather & it never let us down, a british plane designed to be flown by british pilots...nuff said :)

  • My dad used to fly one of these and its almost made me fatherless many times. I wouldn't say I went to a lot of funerals but I have been to a few. he loved flying it but he would always make a very deliberate good by and I love you before he went flying.

  • The lift fan of F-35 is only does one job, lift the aircraft until it up to fly speed, while Harrier's thrust vector nozzles are do 2 jobs, when nozzles fold back to gain speed, if nose loose lift for any reason like wind gust then no way to recover, must eject. The video said it all, very dangerous to fly.

  • F-35 cost is much higher than Harrier but way much better than Harrier in every way. This video is clear enough and there are no reasons to maintain Harrier in service.

Because it is more complicated, the VTOL version of the F35 is likely to be less reliable and more costly to maintain than the Harrier. The payload-range capability of the VTOL version is also likely to be poorer than the Harrier, because it is supersonic and therefore has to be more robustly built, hence heavier, to handle transonic buffeting. The range-payload capability of the AV8-B matches that of the A7 Corsair attack, which is excellent and better than the FA18A Hornet.

  • @andyfozzy

The AV8-A was a British plane. The AV8-B is an American plane, with a minor British role role apart from the engine. AV8-B looks similar to the AV8-A but is a completely new plane with double the range and payload. It looks similar because any plane built around the unique Rolls Royce Pegasus engine will look similar.

The F22 is 100 times as bad from reports. It has hardly any serviceability at all.

  • The other issue - the Harrier's vulnerability to ground file is due to the fact that its construction is extremely lightweight and lacks armour protection to vital areas. This is to do with the fact that it needs to be built very light for vertical take off. This is a necessary compromise for VTOL capability. Pluses are the Harrier's immunity to attacks on airfields, and their very quick response to close air support requests due to the fact that they can be based close to the action.
