Mr. Headstone's proposal to Lizzie

I loved David Morrissey's performance in this and felt like sharing.

  • That was the scariest proposal ever!!! I felt I was watching a horror movie rather than a romantic one...scaaarry, i think i would have Ran away from him lol, did u see how he held the headstone?...David Morrissey performed this scene like a pro!

  • @ Piper5468

"David Morrissey performed this scene like a pro!" Exactly why I felt like sharing it. He did a maginificent job!

  • Is it wrong that i find him strangely alluring when he goes mental in this?? Actually that doesn't need to be answered.

  • No, it's not wrong at all. I'm right there with you!

  • for few moments I was holding my breath there... hahahaha... my goodness! love can really drive a person crazy!

  • I notice you left out what happens afterwards... where he goes nuts, threatens to kill Eugene, and nearly attacks her.

  • this is what loves does to you. it thrashes the hell out of you. scares you to pieces but calms and subdues you all at the same time. scaryyyyy!

  • I was wondering was it really love he felt for the girl or is it only an obsession. What a character that will take time to appreciate. I wonder if he needed someone to open up and someone to take care of him but then the way he has growm will always let him be the ''scary''' side.

  • It's typical Dickens. Trust him to set a proposal scene in a graveyard.

  • @potomusicfan4ever as I said below, one of the best acting performances of any kind I've ever seen (and I'm something of a film buff.)

the whole series was exceptionally cast, acted, scored and written.

  • @AnadriewenCuthalion It's pretty evident that he did "love her" in his own way as Lizzie says herself later in the series. But she definitely made the right choice o.0 if you think about it someone capable of such obsession, lack of self respect and vindictive selfishness and violence really needs something more than 'someone to think well of him.' I can hardly think *you* would have accepted such a proposal.

Morrissey is a terrific actor- one of the best film performances of any kind ever IMO.

  • I have to admit . . . I felt very bad for him. All he needed was someone to love and think well of him. I was rooting for him until this scene, but I still, deep down, wish she had said yes (no need to draw your swords Eugene fans). I do believe he HONESTLY loved her . . . just is a very CRAZY (o.O) kind of way that's all.

  • You left out the part when he goes crazy at the end and almost hits her! :O

  • Was anyone else rooting for Bradley until this part of the miniseries?

At first he seems just this lonely, shy, sensitive guy, who just needs a friend, which would make him a nice match for the sweet and gentle Lizzie Hexam... and then we get to the proposal scene, and you just find yourself thinking, "Lizzie, run for your life, change your name and move somewhere far away."

Those of you who haven't read the book, just trust me: He's even more scary in the novel.
