HYANNIS A Southboro teen was arrested and arraigned this afternoon on charges he murdered his uncle, who was discovered last night at his Ripple Cove Road vacation home.

Christopher Manoloules, 17, was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on charges of murder and attempting to commit armed robbery, stemming from the apparent killing of his uncle, Aris Manoloules, 47, a Framingham resident, who was found dead in his Hyannis home.

Investigators at the Cape and Islands District Attorney's office declined to comment today on the nature of Manoloules' death or any possible motive, although they labeled the death suspicious last night and immediately launched a criminal investigation.

A not guilty plea was entered on Christopher Manoloules' behalf this afternoon in court, and he was held without bail.

The investigation is continuing and could result in further arrests in the coming days, Cape and Islands Assistant District Attorney Matthew Kelley said during the arraignment. He then asked that the police report in the case be kept sealed either until the suspect's next court hearing on Nov. 5 or until another suspect is arraigned.

In court, the Kelley said he expects another person to be charge with the crime.

Earlier today, the scene was quiet this morning along Ripple Cove Road, a still, residential neighborhood near Hyannis Harbor.

A Barnstable police van sat idling, breaking the silence in front of the home, a split-level ranch, while a construction crew worked on the house next door.

Several neighbors drove by slowly, staring curiously at the house, which is fronted by a large wooden deck and a well-manicured lawn and gardens.

A dark-colored Honda station wagon rested in the driveway, the front door remained open and the front light was still on.

The light had been on since Tuesday, and the door open since at least yesterday morning, leaving neighbors to wonder about when Manoloules actually died, said several neighbors, who asked not to be identified, this morning.

It didn't happen yesterday, one neighbor said. The house was perfectly still yesterday. ... Maybe (it was) the night before.

Manoloules, a full-time Framingham resident, had used the house as a vacation home for years, along with his parents, the neighbor said. He did not work, but used to take care of his parents as they aged until they died several years ago, the neighbor said.

Manoloules purchased the property, assessed at $612,000, for $1 in 2001 from his mother, Fevronia Manoloules, according to town records.

Over his years in the neighborhood, Manoloules, who was not married and had no children, never caused trouble, the neighbors said. He was friendly with the neighbors, and never had loud parties or get-togethers, they said.

I can't imagine why anyone would do this to him, the neighbor said. He wouldn't hurt a fly.
