This is the Zero-Five 43 feet multiband vertical antenna installed at my QTH. Sorry for the heavy breathing but the allergies were kicking when I shot this. For better quality click the HD icon on the bottom right corner of the player.

  • I was wondering if you could put this antenna on a mast to get some hight or would that change the charicteristics of the antenna?

  • @honeybees It will work even better, I know people that have it installed on top of their tower. Depending on the height you will need to install elevated radials, at least 4 for each band you are planning to use the vertical on.

  • Hi

Is this the same antenna as the HY-GAIN 6160 43ft verticle? what is the balun ?

    Nice video

  • @fasthandslow Same concept as the Hy-gain, much better built in my opinion. There is a very good explanation of what a balun is on Wikipedia, check it out.

  • dont know about your country but in the uk amateur radio says do not touch any part of the antenna why you are transmitting.

how can you be sure that sombody doesnt touch your chain link fence why you are DXing useing power

they may get nasty RF burns

  • @1SoundBlaster The chain link fence is in the back of the property and nobody ever goes there in mine or any of the neighbors. Also I use that antenna only at night on the low bands, if someone gets a RF burn at that time from being in my back yard or any other it deserves it!

  • I fail to see how a chain link fence provides a sufficient ground plane. Seems to me there are going to be a LOT of ground losses.

  • @k3rojal Thanks for your comment! I tend to disagree that you with the vertical are doing better that people with tribanders. I have a tribander myself and it's night and day compare to the vertical on 20 meters and up.

  • I also use my chain link fence as a ground which acts as a ground plane. A great antenna and have worked tremendous DX in the last few months. I do better than my friends using triband beams. Have worked over 6,000 stations in the last 5 months.

  • Great, only thing I would change is the ground wire from 6 ga to a flat braided type strap.
