For all those 1.8T owners out there who wondering why their startups are embarassingly noisy, here's a reference. I had dealer startup another 1.8T to compare... it was quiet. I was told it would cost about $400 to fix the pump.

  • what is the use of that any way?

  • from what I understand, it supplies extra oxygen to the engine to cut down emissions during the warm up cycle.

  • No, too much money to repair. $300 for new door lock actuators to stop the car from locking me in after 15 sec and setting off the alarm when I try to start the car. I can live with them.

  • Repalce those shitty rivets that hold the top part of the pump in place. Use screws, washers and loctite...all will be quiet once again.

  • mine started making that noise and the timing belt ended up snappin and bending 2 valves.. if your having this problem may consider that.. also som emornings it would take a couple cranks to start and the codes it threw were.. crankshaft position sensor and secondary air flow.

  • @Gullatine5 big plastic cylinder thing on the bottom, front of the motor. it's not on a pulley. right by the oil filter.

  • @Libanass haha I know right?!? I didn't even know people considered this to be a problem, I thought all turbo Jettas did that! I personally love that sound my GLI makes every morning... kinda makes me feel like I just turned off some secret jet engine under the hood lol

  • Where is the secondary air injection pump located? Can anybody tell me?

  • For those people who do not want to pay the $400 to purchase a new secondary air pump, here is a fix that will cost 5-10 dollars.

  • @NYkiosk Better than North Americans... You'll have to kill me to make me drive a cobalt or cavalier

  • I don't what you guys are complaining about, I love that sound on my 1.8T beetle, it almost sounds like an F16 xD

  • its called 2ndary air injection and it pumps o2 in to the exhaust during start up to lower the emissions until the car has warmed up to oper temp when the pump shuts off

  • Im having Jetta problems too...

Check out the vids i posted and maybe

thoes who know what they are talking about

can help me figure the problem out?!?!
