Terry Jones outsourced the DVD cut of his film to his son Bill, who apparently hates his father and wants to destroy his creative legacy. The film was cut from a perfectly fine 100 minute film to 75 minutes of unbelievably sloppy, shoddy cuts. In this sequence, the dramatic climax, whole lines of dialogue are dropped out of the film. This isn't some rough cut stolen from a warehouse somewhere. This is what's actually on the DVD they're asking money for.

Bill Jones: you should be ashamed of yourself. Go be a shepherd or something and never touch an editing machine again.
Terry Jones: talk to Mr. Gilliam's contacts at Criterion and get a double-dip. Seriously. Please, please produce a 2-DVD set of the movie including the original US theatrical cut of 100 minutes. And get a restraining order on your son and don't let him anywhere near the editing room; he's got it in for you.
Imogen Stubbs: if things don't work out with Trevor, *call me.*

  • On Netflix they actually have the full cut of the film [as in the way we all saw it once upon a time] and when my fiance and I watched it, we couldn't stop laughing. I recently watched the directors son's cut and I have to admit - I was seriously disappointed. So much was hacked and cut from the film and while it still had most of the funny moments I loved, the editing was awful and the re-dubbing of certain points was completely unnecessary.

  • I wholeheartedly agree... his son apparently has none of his fathers comedic talent or eye for timing (then again maybe he was super stoned and thought he did a good job "fixing" something that didn't need fixing!)... I was seriously disappointed that I shelled out hard earned money for this piece of crap dvd... what previously was a wonderful movie and story...

  • Gods, it's like watching a bad dub, isn't it? Bits have been slashed out; other bits you can actually see their lips moving, but there's no sound. It's like watching the subtitled climax of Lang's "M".

I've been waiting *15 BLOODY YEARS* for the DVD version, and they give me THIS crap?! Forget them: I'll buy a copy from Australia and strip the region out myself.

Bloody wankers... EtV is one of the very BEST Viking movies... until this crap cut... GAH!!one!
