Wendell Willkie was the 1940 Republican nominee for President.
The joke refers to an incident at the 1940 Republican convention, when the head of a state delegation from the Midwest announced "two votes for Villkie" in a Scandinavian accent (notice the gremlin's own accent when he yells).
It became a meme for a few years...but then Willkie died of a heart attack in 1944.

The scene of the plane flying toward the buildings would not have flown in today's cartoons, no pun intended.

Another classic from my childhood. Thanks.

Victory through hare power. XD

Use to watch these cartoons everyday after school when I was a kid.

@sha11235 -nods- "Thank you, George." *double take* I find the irony hilarious.

They still wrecked the plane, with the plane's wings cracking off.
-
That way! (Gremlin points in both directions and crosses his eyes out)

@pleeppleep Yeah, a little hard to watch that part when the plane looks like it is going to hit a building, isn't it? I have the feeling they'd have to edit that part out today.

@belledame3 Yeah, it is a topical joke. Today, those cards are used in restaurants for sanitary conditions. But wouldn't A mean the best in those days, by the way?
WHAT AM I DOING????
The way he screams it is just drop-dead funny!!

Back in World War Two, gas was severely rationed. There were A, B, and C cards that indicated how much gas you could get. A cards were the worst, C cards were the best.
