@TrailRidingGemini Better to be safe than to be sorry. Horses are unpredictable and yanking down on their face like that is COMPLETELY harm free. Maybe the mare is pushy generally and the girl knew that was the best way to get her attention. I work around 54 horses/ponies daily including 4 welsh pony stallions and many young ottb's and the BEST way to get a horses attention and take control of a potentially dangerous situation is to yank on their face (only if using halter and leadrope!)

another thing you coulda done instead of the harsh jerk was just push her back a step...
-
sorry but u really only needed one jerk... but yaaaa
-
yeahhhh, that jerk was no where near harsh! I've seen a guy jerk like that with a shank chain on the horse, this was a padded nylon halter and a cotton lead.......

@godislove181 where do you live?

UOFM is better beacause they dont hit their horses.

I remember going to something like this, except it was right by Cal Poly Pomona
people are complaining about the mares lead being snapped, honestly, the mare moved forward without permission. that was the correction. it says "you were not given permission to step forward", it is not meant to be mean, but to keep both the horse and handler safe.
