The Dalton Highway starts north of Fairbanks and ends at Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean. The first 100 miles are paved and the remaining 300 are gravel. The Alaska pipeline runs parallel to the Dalton Highway. Many thanks to Musicshake for letting us use their piece "This Is What You Caused."

  • I would love to spend my birthday in northern Alaska just to see what it's like. I would fly from Hamilton, Ontario (where I live) to Anchorage and then rent a car and drive to Deadhorse. I was born at 10:22 PM Alaska time on July 28th. (My birthday's actually the 29th, but I was born before 4:00 AM Eastern Time, (do the math) so if I were to be in Alaska, would it be on the 28th for the time being?)

  • I went from Washingtion DC to Fairbanks Alaska I started out at 10.00AM and got there around 10.20PM what was starange about it was that I went up to it during the time of the midnight sun so I started out in a zone where their was day and night. But as I flew up there the whole day the sun stopped setting and would turn into a very strange bright twighlight at night. It is a very strange expence to fly from night and day to ever ending sunlight

  • I used to drive to Prudhoe Bay, for my job. Its an awesome scenic road. Fun in the winter.LOL.You can see it with ice road truckers Alaska. videos.

  • It was very wild to see them make a season of Ice Road Truckers based off of the Dalton Highway after going on it.

  • Very very awesome!!!!

You are like me, I love travel without a destination.

    Very great videos.

Next Services: 240 MILES - Point of No Return

    GREAT!!!!

  • Some of the strangest parts of it was when we went though the area that had been burned by the forest fires. The Oil fields are almost like a major city at the end of the road.

  • Great vid! Not true that first 100 mi paved and last 300 dirt. paved and unpaved portions interspersed until mile 240.

Finger mountain is the hill, finger rock is the granite tor.

The camp bird is a gray jay.

  • I'll have to put this place on my future to do list.

  • Way cool!

  • so cold and....empty.

I'd love it out there just to live there for like, 3-5 months.

  • Thanks for the great photos and excellent choice of music !!

  • *sigh* I sure miss Alaska. My dad worked in Coldfoot about 13 years ago and we drove that road (Dalton Highway) quite a bit. Makes me really homesick seeing this.
