@NoahSV I place the Eroica Symphony far above the Fifth. And the Seventh too.

Well the Ninth is my favourite symphony of all time, with the Eroica and k 550 as a close one. But Beethoven's treatment of the vocal section is not a perfect achievement as it is the rest of the symphony. I mean, for me there is only one real absolute masterpiece in the history of music and is the AoF. It is a Bach that change his approach to the field where he was the undisputed master. No more interested in writing a perfect fugue that exemplifies all the possibilites of tonal music.

@Vinciano I.m.o the 3rd+9th are the best. I dn't undrstnd your take on the last mvmnt of the 9th, for, although prhps not at first, that naturally becomes the lstner's fvrte mvmnt equal to all hthrto mvmnts cmbnd. I at first rjctd it b/c the main theme is so cmmn;on realizing that the thm takes up only a very small part of the mvmnt, and that the instrmntn, cntrpnt, hrmny, enrgy and sheer genius is what makes it mmrble, I came to favour the mvmnt, and the rcttve, above all other exmpls of music.

@iguarni _ I share in part your ideas. The 5th is anyway a great work.
-
@vinciano in my opinion last moviment of 5th is a pure masterpiece and the 9th is a genius's work!
All the best

@iguarni 5 is a great work but very overrated. The first mov. is overwhelming, but the rest of the symphony is just... "great" and nothing more. The Ninth is a glorious masterpiece, although the last movement is unbalanced. If i should pick a work by Beethoven to place among the Art of Fugue i should choose the op. 133.

@uprooy You know that is Weird? Listening to the contrapunctus VI played by E. Hill (in what I consider a really remarkable version of the Art of Fugue) i thought it was the weakes or, at least, the less interesting piece of the great masterpiece. In this version sound totally different.

@uprooy No no no. The fact that this was composed by a mere human makes it all the more beautiful. Gould is incomparable to Bach, despite also having superhuman talents.
-
@xDimebladex for sure!!!

@iguarni and the great fugue for string quartett from beethoven, as well as his 15 eroica variations^^
The contrapunctus no 6 must be composed by God himself. And Gould must be a reincarnation of Bach.
It's so breathtaking beautiful. By far the most divine piece I've ever heard in my life.
