uhmm i raise halter horse, and we breed for balance and structural corectness! the industry is not to create a bionic horse but to create ideal conformation on a horse that can move. if you go to a halter show at the world show and listen to how the classes are being placed you'll understand. People juar tend to sometimes abuse the animals by injecting abnormal supplements into their bodies, not everyone does that. most of us do not. we work really hard for the excess muscle we get!

unfortunates american horses

They look like bulls bred for the meat industry. They can't move proparly because of the overkill of muscles.

these horses are beautiful! Although i do agree about the muscling and conformation... it is unfortunate. some of these owners will have to worry about the horses injuring themselves in the paddock because they are so unmobile and heavy.

is this really a weanling class?

im looking forward to training my mares foal (due next year) for halter. it will be my first halter horse, and i have gotten to meet 3 world champions. I actually got to sit on "Sheza Classic Doll"s sister "Barbie" owned by Roz Rains. These horses are soooo powerful, but there are some consequences to it! good luck to you guys!

it is sad that some of these horses will not be rode but breed back most people breed to good horses to make better horses for any type of riding instead of being judged on how they look than on how they perform your horse could have great conformation and still run like crap and they can have bad conformation but run better than the well breed horses with an amazing pedigree sadly looks dont make a good horse

What big fat over conditioned fillies.....and owners get prizes for this?!

they look great but sad thing is a lot of these filly's will never be ridden! most break down when broken in if they even get there. Some of the feet on these weanlings are shocking! growth plates wouldnt be doing very well either!

obscuredmelody, i completely agree. We had a mare that was strictly halter bred, and it was so hard to get her fit and keep her that way since she was so big naturally. she also had small hooves and the older she got, the harder it was to keep her sound because of her size compared to her feet. I believe horses should be bred to do anything needed, not just stand and look pretty. They should be bred to perform. Pretty only takes you so far.

Although I really like quarter horses, I find it a sad trend that the halter horses are so base-narrow and post legged? And lets not even start with the limited ROM in the stifle.Functionally, the conformation seems somewhat useless. But they sure are sleek.
