  • Why do you stop playing sometimes?

Why don't you play at a constant speed?

  • Not sure where I am stopping, however in regards to varying the tempo I am just trying to let the music breathe a bit between phrases. Accelerandi are also a great way to increase the excitement. This piece requires a passionate interpretation. To play it metronomically would be depriving it of a human characteristic. Performing totally in time sounds so robotic. I hope that answers to some degree your question.

  • yes, I understand, but I think that the song needs to be more "tortured", just like says the instruction of the composer.

  • so playing mechanically in time will make it more tortured? I do not see the connection between the two. It is full of the fire of Hades and the crack of the devil's whip as well as the pleas of the tortured soul wandering aimlessly through the corridors of Purgatory. Perhaps I hear it differently than you. Thanks for your comment.

  • no. it is not to do a mecanical job, but, for example, do the Forte and the Piano when it is to be done.

    Oh, Hades? Purgatory?

Sorry... I want to know hahaha

    where are you from?!

  • the piece holds imagery for me. Good luck in your piano playing.

  • Also the piece is a hommage to Scriabin, the great Russian romantic. This too must weigh in on the interpretation. Again regarding the rubato, Guarnieri has marked 3 rallentandi in the score as well as a myriad of dynamics and the indication molto espressivo. It would seem that he himself did not want it to be played is strict time.

  • Wow, Your piano technique is very smart in relaxing concept!!

  • This is the BEST performance of this work. Personally I love thegive and take of the tempo. It is like Skryabin brasileiro! The last cord is as though a knife wound!!!

  • Seems great for me Josef. I had the score with me while listening to you. Great job, post more videos. Are you from Brazil?
