@KaynRaynBnZ try one on ones! a lateral is kind of advanced... I had to do one my first year and i just did a palm roll and it looked so different from everyone else's. explain how it feels to do one. and make them show you how they toss it. colorguard is all about the practice.

@KaynRaynBnZ there was a girl my coach taught who always had to walk forward to catch so she made her do like 50 paralles standing on a chair haha i guess it worked
-
That was good, but dude, I wish ours was that easy. They are making new-bees toss 45's at my school. And like, we are in Mississippi, and from the ghetto so we have no business tossing 45's like they are basic.

You're very dominant on your right...
-
a paralell are you serious is took us weeks before we learned paralells and some new people not including me still dont get it
-
@KaynRaynBnZ just have them hit all the check points and make sure they release hard enough we had parallels and doubles as part of our tryout routine and they all tossed it fine its just a matter of teaching them the proper technique parallels arent hard so they should be able to do them

MIKA + Color guard = tHe beSt!!!!!

hey, dont be stupid. its an audition video. If you knew your shit, you'd notice all the basics he's applying. Thats important for a guard. Even if the work is easy, you still have to apply the basics because when you move onto harder work, you won't be able to do it, because you dont apply technique. and think about it, newbies wont have any experience on flag so that would be pretty hard for them. So Shut up.

even the worst girl on our guard can do that and she cant do anything XD you suck sadly
-
so eassy! x)
but good for basic stuff :p
a parallel toss in a tryout routine?!?!?! dang...high expectations much? for real though, my squad has 11 girls on it, 6 of them new-bees and they still can't do a parallel. Any advice on how to teach something and make it stick?

FAKE IT. :D
No really. Let them do a palm roll above the head. Baby steps, then wean them off the easy stuff.
What our instructor did was drill us over and (over x's infinity). Not only did we get a ton of practice, it scared the crap out of us (those darn one handed parellels).
Just make sure they realize that there're nothing to be afraid of, that being strong and confidently presentable is KEY.
There's nothing more dangerous than a weak above the head toss.
