Thanks quesadilla247. You are right, you both are. I guess the Phenom II 955/965 is cheaper and almost as good as the i7 920.

AMD is cheap and cheerful and preforms very well for what it is and the price, i couldn't justify spending so much on a cpu well i could but the girlfriend could'nt lol

Thank you. Why did you choose the AMD option? From what I have read the i7 920 performs better and overclocks a lot better than the Phenom II x4 965.

But then again the Ph II 965 is more than enough for all games and costs with a good mainboard less than the i7 920 alone.

i play all games on high to max settings with this cpu and it preforms great but newer games mite not play so well i am going to be upgrading to a amd phenom x4 965 3.4ghz and ddr3 and new mobo in the near future but no hurry games i play now are call of duty (all inc modern warfare 2) gta iv gta sa gta vc gta 3 need for speed ( all plus the new one shift) bioshock, crysis, crysis warhead, crysis wars,far cry, far cry 2, all battlefield games, halflife 2, F.E.A.R,2, left for dead and so on....

I can not decide whether to go with a kickass 3000$ rig or a cheap one for about 500$. I feel like wasting money when buying all the latest hardware when it may be possible to play all modern games for far less money.

Is the ATHLON 64 X2 DUAL CORE 6000+ enough to play most modern games at decent settings?
