@georgewbushpresident poor form is bad thing when the back is involved... but for other areas it's really not that big a deal. all perfect form does is ensure you target the exact same muscles over and over. as a football player, it can be very beneficial to have strength in areas that aren't normally touched by standard weightlifting

His back may very well be straight. The part of the back that we should be most concerned with is the lumbar spine, and we can't see it from this angle. That is probably why the coach (?) is standing directly beside him where he can see the spinal alignment. This exercise, a seated clean, is for upper body explosiveness, and is a part of an exercise program to develop a properly -functioning chain of force that will help this athlete excel in athletic endeavors. - Jim Schueller, CSCS
