@jackheaney In the movie she calls herself a monster. However, she had reason (although some acts were partly inexcusable) behind the way she lived her life and used writing as an act of escapism. Even if Blyton was a snob or a monster, she was a brilliant one at that. Her books are still recognised by children today, and they are still as loved as ever. The disappointing part is that her books have now been altered - Dick and Fanny from the Faraway Tree are now Rick and Franny. :(

From what I understood while watching Enid, the movie based on the author's life, Noddy was actually created by Enid Blyton after she miscarried a baby boy. The character of Big Ears was based on her lover and father of the child, who was known for having big ears. It's amazing how such a terrible circumstance could bring happy childhood memories to people decades later. Enid Blyton was such an amazing woman and doesn't receive anywhere near enough recognition for her work any more.
