Volcanic Eruption Grimsvötn Iceland. Shot by Jon Gustafsson http://www.JonGustafsson.com for the Helicopter Service of Iceland - http://www.helicopter.is
We landed on the glacier, 5 miles away from the crater around 11pm, and that was 3-4 hours after the eruption started. It was so extremely cold on the glacier that I only managed 2 minutes outside the helicopter. After that I tried to shoot the rest hand-held from inside the Bell LongRanger. We got around 15 minutes of film time over the volcano and then we had to turn back. The light was disappearing and the pilots needs visual references to fly. I edited the video in the helicopter on the way back to Reykjavik. I didn't even have time to watch what I edited because I had to get it out to broadcasters a.s.a.p. In the taxi from the airport I figured I would put this on YouTube and VIMEO to show to potential buyers of the footage. To make sure no one would take the footage without permission I put "Helicopter.is" on it and added music from my friend and Hollywood composer Veigar Margeirsson. Now that I watch it 5 days later for the first time I see that the music fits perfectly. It makes me want to watch the whole thing till the end. The only thing you can hear on the original soundtrack is the motor of the Bell LongRanger and distorted wind noise as the wind hammered my microphone. Sometimes you can also hear my own voice as I complain about the bitter cold but we never heard the volcano.

  • @scottdmovie Music sounds good to me. Stop complaining and enjoy the footage of something amazing, and if you don't like the music turn off your volume or go find another similar high quality video.

  • the background music made the video more amazing to watch, and with the lightning surrounding the big clouds of ashes (correct me if those arent ashes) made it more magical. :) thanks for sharing this video.

  • This video is wonderful, and people that shot this movie should be very proud of it!

Also the people that made the web cameras for this volcano, they made an amazing quality show for me; and I spent hours watching it on many occasions here in England, UK.

  • @WishListForChristmas

Missouri is home to dozens of extinct volcanoes =]

  • @Alda1981 You are probably right: iceland is an island in the Atlantic

  • @iroq1701 I'd say you're the one who's not intelligent you can't even tell the difference between real life and a video game, it's pretty sad when people start thinking real life things look computer generated....

  • @iroq1701 0/10

  • Katla is waking up ppl not good lets hope it isnt a full blown eruption

  • @st3vEn3o Uh, no. The lava flowing would have to be enough to form a new continent to make a noticeable difference.

  • @iroq1701 Uh, no this is real. Volcanic lightning is pretty common with eruptions...

  • @imnok1 I am aware of the intentions. However, it had it's own beauty naturally. Why add a layer of cheesiness to it... This isn't a Hollywood movie.
