I think it's kinda useful to know what a Major 7th is.You know the seventh note of a major scale??Yes that's your major 7th!
C major 7th:C-E-G-B(not flat,that would be a minor seventh).
I think a chord of this type it's more effective by adding a 9th and a sharp 11th

@dle777 if you stay in a single key that's true, kind of. Stretches are amazingly helpful when going to obscure keys and when jumping up or down the neck.
But mostly, no arpeggio is as smooth as one that uses this kind of stretch.
Watch any "shredder" whether jazz or rock - the faster they are the more likely they are to use this type of fingering.
