Does the MOTU Ultralite MK3 Hybrid need any external pre amps for all the drum mics?

@reloud37 No pre amps needed. But it only has two. I used a mixer pre amp for the other mic then plugged the ouput from the mixer into an input on the MOTU.

@guinness2u1 Oh so actually you recorded 4 channels?2 (lets say the overheads) and 2 (output from the mixer where all the close mic's are equalized and mixed)

@reloud37 Actually it was five channels. I used the two internal mics on a Tascam DP-008 for overheads plugged into the MOTU. Only one mic from the mixer to the MOTU plus two mics plugged directly into the MOTU pre amps. I used Reaper on a laptop to "mix" all the mics from the MOTU. A bit messy, but I have to experiment more or get proper mics.

@guinness2u1 I think you better buy a external mic preamp with lets say 8 channels and plug all the mics into that (Overheads into MOTU preamps).
And for a monitor you just use the MOTU headphones out or plug the outputs to a mixer and create your own monitor mix.
What mic's are those?normally it only needs a little mastering to let them sound good.
Also mic placement can help a lot.For example i don't see any top mic's for your snare.

@reloud37 I used two GLS ES-57 mics and one Shure SM 58.
