Episode: Malice for Quake
Level: A Rat's Life
Secrets: Four
Difficulty: Hard

BOOOO!

Another game, another sewer level! But before you all start to judge it against the many sewer levels I've come across in the many different games I've been through, I will say this - the level is actually not all that bad. In fact, I'd say it's my favourite out of the entire mod. It's not a perfect level but then again, what is? Its repetitive architecture and overly long bland corridors aren't all that great to look at but on the whole, I found it to be quite an enjoyable level.

I enjoyed it so much that I very nearly died. Oh yeah. Whoops.

Oh look. It's that part in a Quake game where all my weapons are taken away from me. I always look forward to when that happens! I suppose the idea of starting with the bare basics once again adds a fresh challenge but it does have the tendency to annoy. My piss was brought to a boil slightly when several Swatmen hitscanners larking around on a walkway above my position thought it'd be funny to chip away at my health from a distance whilst all I could hope for was that my ineffective Pistol could save my skin. Don't get me wrong, it's a good weapon but over large distances, it's not so great.

It's not often that I miss out on a number of enemies (in fact, I try to ensure that the kill ratio is as close to 100% as possible whatever the game) but fuck it, at least I dare to be different! Or at least, I try my best not to look so inefficient at what I'm doing. Whatever. Perhaps sometimes the enemy(ies) feels it's beneath them that they have to be punctual and thus don't actually bother showing up. More power to me since it makes my job a lot easier even if I do miss out on capping a few ne'er do wells in the head. Your loss!

I'm going off on one of my nonsensical tangents again. Best stop now.

  • Our hero should know that "they put the sights on the top for a reason" (Garth Ennis' Punisher dixit).

  • Secrets on this level seem simple to figure out compared to those in previous levels
