@luedog4life They're some alien race(can't remember the name) and if they feed on a timelord they can live forever, so in kindness he tryed to hide from them by becoming human and just letting them die of old age

Because he became human, so he could hide from them. He also needed to forget who he was and believed to be a teacher named John Smith. John Smith fell in love and was happy in his new life, but the family found him and Martha told him, that he had to open the watch and remember. He had to choose and so he "killed" John Smith, became the Doctor again and had to leave the woman he loved behind.

The fact that the Doctor can do those things is scary. Also that you don't get to see how he does them which leaves it to the imagination...

what the most terrifying part of this is how they never say HOW the Doctor did this. especially the mirror bit.
