Pope John Paul I is one of the greatest popes in all history. It was truly a special holy man. I miss him terribly, but I know he is in heaven.

@jennuel130 Actually, we were treating the popes still as Renaissance monarchs of the Papal States, which existed for 1,000 years! Recent pope realized that the secular trappings were a distraction in the modern era. John XXIII abolished the Sedia Gestatoria on which popes were carried around with an awning overhead. Luciani did without the Crowning, and his successors have followed suit. Luciani was the first to drop the use of "we" and started to say "I". for himself.

@jennuel130 Popes are the Vicars of Jesus on earth, which is the reason that Jesus, the Eternal Rock of Faith in heaven named Simon bar Jona "Kepha", which is Aramaic for Rock and said He would found His Church on that Rock and gave him the keys to the kingdom of heaven! Since outside of Palestine and Syria, everybody spoke Greek, "Kepha" was usually translated as "Petros" in Greek, the Masculine form of the word "petra", a feminine noun for "rock". St. Paul referred to him as "Kephas".

@jpmac23 The crowning of popes with the tiara was more in recognition as monarchs of the Papal States, a situation and period long past, ending in 1870. The spiritual role is elevated and the old secular power symbols have been done away with, although the pope is the ruler of the Vatican City, an independent and sovereign state or nation since 1929

@BibleWinScienceFail John Paul I Unfortunately was Murdered, but that is not a reason to leave the catholic church because it has so many good things, and also the Catholic Church is the only religion that can take out devils in the Exorcism

@noleyplatz ,
Perhaps.

@popazz1 If you read Julian of Norwich, and in fact, trust your own experiences in the Spirit, you will know that what appears to be a bad thing often turns out to be in the greater Plan, so perhaps JPII got all the benefits.

I walked away from the catholic cult at around the time this pope died.But even I felt there was something truly humanitarian about John-Paul.Such a shame he only served for one month,who knows how the church may have progressed.

About the Protestants seeing us Catholics treating the Pope like God, its a pre-vatican concept. Because before the Pope is acting like God, but the Roman Catholic Church and the following Popes realized that we screwed-up, so to make-up on our short-comings, the Roman Catholic Church corrected itself, through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, thus resulting in the counter-reformation, wherein the Church sent missionaries to educate its faithful.
