You don't want intel hardware? What the... are you talking about going AMD, or something else? If you really think AMD is competitive right now... well, you've got blinders on. AMD was beating the pants of intel 2 years ago when intel was relying on Netburst, but ever since they moved to the Core processor, they've left AMD in the dust.
Uh... yeah. Duh. Competition is why Core exists at all. If it didn't, we'd be stuck with Netburst.
Get your head out of your ass. Intel is king at the moment. It could switch to AMD, but even with their current roadmaps of leapfrogging 8x execution cores to something higher, it's debatable. What isn't it debatable is that intel has really turned itself around these past two years, and their hardware by no stretch of the imagination could be called "icky". Unless you're a fanboy.
Are you ten years old? The FPE bug was for the ORIGINAL PENTIUM.
And I hate to tell you this, but when you grow up, no one wants to tweak their system anymore - they just want it to work. No overclocking, no registry tweaks. Any processor motherboard manufacturer who expects people to do that is relegated/aimed at a very nice community only.
You should've stayed quiet before - clearly you don't know what you're talking about.

Do want for linux!
great jobb you guys...
But think of the penguins!!!
(I dont want icky sticky intel hardware
otherwise i would consider getting a mac)
so AMDs next prosessors will beat the pants of intel in an epic way.
also intel use deeply unethical buissnis practices like exclusiveity agrements with retailers.
intel must not get to large a slice of the market.
healty competition essential!

(ok with the exeption of a htc shift... though i really wanted something by VIA... they do smaller cards ibm)
and btw intel cant even handle float numbers with deasent accuracy..
you can do optimization on an amd that would never work on an intel because of this.
