No corporation has the authority to kill me if I refuse to do business with them. The government does.
If I refuse to pay my taxes, they will eventually send armed men to arrest me. If I resist them, they have the right to shoot me dead.
-
Don't be daft. I am not arguing that corporations are "good". I believe that the corporate nature is to look after its own interests. My point is that politicians and bureaucrats are no better, and have far more power.
To increase the power of government out of fear of corporations is folly. The integration of corporations and government we are seeing under Obama will lead to real tyranny.
You failed in any way to respond to this point.

Left wing extremism is characterized by external force on an individual. By contrast- right wing extremism would be total independence with no external control. All control would be internal with the individual acting on their own with no consistent order between parties enforced. Anarchy. Not the false anarchy of the modern day WTO protest crowd, but outlaw josey wales, jeremiah johnson lone wolf and cub type anarchy. Internal individual/external collective; there's your dichotomy.

communists/fascists/nazis/soci
alists..are all Leftist i.e. favoring 'coercive socialism' (unethical and unauthorized). Usually in pursuit of a grandiose 'ideology'. And none of it is "liberal",obviously, in the true sense.
Conservatism/liberalism(genuin
e)/nationalism/patriotism/heri tage/freedom/peace/godliness ....are of the Right. 'Extreme Right' would be the Amish (if they were vegetarian), or Ghandi, Schweitzer, or Christ. Somewhat Less Right? Cromwell.

"Left-wing," "right-wing," "socialism," "capitalism," "communism," "fascism," "nazism," "anti-fascism," "anti-nazism," "anti-capitalism" - these are names. The same struggles have been going on for thousands and thousands of years, always changing, adopting, and covering up with new names.
Nothing is new under the sun.

Here is Heinrich Heine, writing back in 1842 after encounter with early Communists: "[It will be the] old absolutist tradition ... but in a different clothes and with new slogans and catch-phrases... There will be only one shepherd with an iron crook and one identically shorn, identically bleating human herd."
Conclusion: beware of names.

One wonders: if Hitler and Mussolini were socialists and left-wingers, what does righ-wing extremism look like? Was Franco a left-winger too? Was Kaiser Wilhelm II a left-winger. Were Russian Tsars left-wingers? Particularly Alexander III, with his motto "Orthodoxy, Autocracy, and National Character"? Or his closest advisor Pobedonostsev? Or Black Hundred leaders (Purishkevich, Markov, Krushevan)?
On the surface, such an assertion is ridiculous. Underneath, however...

Much of what he says is eye opening. But...
I do support an 8-hour work day. And also universal sufferage (right of women to vote). And prohibition of child labor, at least under 12. And some other things he mentions as socialist or fascist. If some really bad dudes supported them too - so what? Life is complex. Bad dudes can sometimes be right too.

@kennny732 Have you read Goldberg's book? I have family who grew up in pre-WWII Germany. His analysis of the American government and citizens fawning over the highly "progressive" governments of Italy, Germany, and Russia is spot on. I'd also recommend "Woodrow Wilson and the Roots of Modern Liberalism." Hands down the best scholarly analysis of progressive history.
Progressive history has absolutely nothing in common with classical liberalism (i.e. conservativism).
-
@SuperDachshund i would find it interesting how you came to this conclusion...
-
@kennny732 I would submit to you we didn't arrive here in fascism through any means of conservative (i.e. classical liberal) mechanism. We got here through 100 years of Progressive legislation and leadership.
-
@SuperDachshund it would appear so... it was said that fascism would arrive in america wrapped in the flag...
there are 3 types of conservatives...xenophobes, greedheads and religionists...goldberg is a xenophobe type conservative
