The soulful classic 1969 remake of their doo-wop debut hit of the same name. RIP to Johnny Funches and Johnny Carter.

  • Wow, powerful and sensuous at the same time, what a combo!!

Does anybody know if the original version recorded in '56 is anywhere on YT?

  • @imthedorf1964 Hey. :) Partially the reason I uploaded THIS one was because the '56 one has like three videos or something, I'm sure it's in the recommended videos section on the right of the video. :)

  • LOVE THIS BUT IT'S VERY DISTORTED

  • @akeemak22 I got it from a site and for some reason when I translated it to an MP3 it sounded botched up. :( Maybe I'll find another version and upload that one. I've been thinking of doing a re-upload. Thanks for the comment. :)

  • There is nothing like ol skool music!

  • I love Chess recording sessions. And their reverb/echo chamber was to be admired and copied, but few could. And Charles Stepney was one helluva arranger. they don't make 'em like this anymore.

  • I love this song. They just don't make em like this anymore unfortunately, all we get now is the same ol junk: Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Eminem, Bieber, LMFAO, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi, Adele and Maroon 5. This is real music, today music like those artists is not music.

  • SON OF GUN; JUST MADE IT!!! In 1969 "Oh What Night'" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 11 weeks in the Top 100...

The original version of this song was recorded by The Dells in 1956 and reached No. 4 on the R&B charts, it's original title was "Oh What A Nite"...

  • OHH WHAT A SONG OHH WHAT A GROUP OHH WHAT MEMORIES THIS BRINGS BACK

  • I've seen them in person about 5 times in my life and every show was fantastic. The real thing!

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 TheMojoMan*com webpage

  • @nycdude999 You got that right!!!!!!! I worked for a chickenshit white bread Program Director once and he almost fired me for playing TOO MANY N-word OLDIES as he said. (I'm white) (He loved The Monkees and all the bubble gum stuff) The very next staff meeting the General Manager of the station told us that I had a 23 share of the audience at night on my show. Everyone hooted for joy and I told the PD,,I guess I'll be playing the oldies I want to play,,He was pissed but could do nothing.

  • One of the very times when a recording act re-records a previous hit record and surpasses it in excellence. Among the best R&B records ever made.

  • @diamondfateful learn music back then it wasn't R&B you must be young
