Yes - RED is supported in the trial version of CS5(it's now built in). For CS4 versions, you need the RED plug-in from their download site

ddr2 and ddr3 are the same for video editing, the only difference is when you come to gameplay for games, that extra bandwith of the DDR3 with a Core i7 generates better AA.

Something that really puzzles me. Why can i edit .R3D files in Sony Vegas real time on my old school pc with 1.5 ghz cpu and 800 - somerhing MB RAM with preview quality set to full? Is it some kind of super proxy?

We worked very hard with RED to give our users this experience. We are not dealing with proxies but rather the native RED file which supports fractional resolutions. Premiere Pro is very modern editor from an internal working standpoint.Remember that we re-wrote Premiere Pro from scratch, everything changed but the name.
