Jazz Legend Barry Harris shares his knowledge about music with students from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Barry Harris is an Internationally renowned Jazz Pianist, Composer and Teacher. Dr. Harris is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from Northwestern University and creator of the Jazz Cultural Theater. Harris has played with Cannonball Adderley, Illinois Jacquet, Coleman Hawkins, Dexter Gordon, and Max Roach. As a lead artist, he has recorded over 14 albums.

The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music offers talented musicians an exceptional opportunity to train with professional artists from New York City's illustrious jazz community. Students develop their individual creative voices as they work to meet the high standards set by our faculty. Our teaching model is based on the tradition of artist as mentor and is implemented by accomplished career musicians with significant links to the history and evolution of jazz, blues, pop, and new genres. Our students gain expertise unique to conservatory training, infused with the generative spirit and vigor of jazz and contemporary music.

  • That man KNOWS the scales and harmony. Fantastic. Love to see more of him on the tube. Need lots more young guys to learn it to keep alive. Bravo Barry. Please come out west to do your workshops.

  • @BashuUp NY aint all its cracked up to be, although it is what it is, for better and worse. But I just watched a show on local tv (here in NY) where he mentions at the end how much he came to highly respect European cats when he was touring different spots.

  • @DajaWaja Have you ever sat in with Barry? Have you ever been around Barry? Have you ever played with some cats that know their shit in NYC. Have you ever listened to Barry talk about movement and Parkers lines? London just doesn't have the same buzz my friend- sorry
