Misogynistic Insults

As played out as the whole Apologetics/TAA thing is getting, at least the fallout has given me some idea fertilizer. :P

A word about etymology: I'm aware that "gyne" actually means "woman," not vagina. But the most common current usage is in the word "gynecologist," which immediately connects in most people's minds with vaginae. The connection between that and the word "misogyny" sometimes seems to just be so obvious that people miss it, so I feel that it's often worth pointing out, even if it means I play a bit fast and loose with definitions to make a point. And regarding the feminization of men: I realize that I may have been a bit vague in the video itself about why this is a problem. It's when feminine terms are used as ways to insult men that a problem arises, because the use of such terms as derogatory implies that female or feminine is the worst thing you could be, thereby insulting not only cisgendered women, but transpeople and in fact, anyone who doesn't adhere to traditional gender binaries, in the process.

Any insult are bad, really. But seriously, you're reading way too much into it. When "dick" or "cunt" is used as an insult, it loses it's original meaning. It's kind of like calling someone a "bitch". Is that an insult to female dogs? A while ago,I was like you, taking everything to heart, but loosen up a little. :D You'll find yourself more relieved.

I'm not going to "loosen up" anytime soon. "Little" things like what I'm talking about in this video are symptomatic of a much bigger cultural problem, and until *that* goes away, I'll still be taking the smaller signs of it seriously.

also- notice how when that certain person went on to insult the one girl (note that I know nothing of the video or issue being discussed) Instead of admitting that he disagreed and found her BELIEFS disturbing-- he verbally reduced her person to nothing more than a vagina. Again... apparently the worst thing you can be. Reducing her to her sexuality, instead of discussing morally and intelligently about what he disagrees with. And yes... this is how things get done in our culture. So sad.

People are people, not just "feminine" or "masculine." People need to get over that. I'm more concerned with the homophobic insults and the "cunt," "bitch," "ho," "slut," "whore," etc. remarks directed at women. For men, they should be who they want to be, regardless of "masculinity." Personally, I hate the word "mangina." Ugh.

@Joebob01010 There's an equivalent insult for women, often played by none other than MRAs; apparently, we "want to be men" or are "being men." Example: "Women want to be men now" or "women are men now." Because, you know, we're not "real women!" Whatever the fuck that means. Also, they call us "dykes" a lot. Classy, guys. Classy.

tl;dr: I agree that it's wrong to judge men by their sex, but the exact same thing happens to women (and often by MRAs). Don't overlook it.
