Trying out a new cooking method to possibly add variety to the backcountry meals. Tasted good. In addition, how to eat oatmeal with easy cleanup in the backcountry. When I was told this I just thought "Duh, why haven't I thought of this?"

  • Good ideas, "Duh, why haven't I thought of this?" pretty much sums it up, I wouldn't have thought of that one. I found you from Nutn's channel, I'm planning my first backpacking trip in less than a month now so I've been looking for ideas and tips. Thanks for the vids.

  • @bobaloosb Yeah I love cooking on a fire! Sometimes there are fire bans because of very dry conditions and sometimes I can imagine getting to the end of a day and being to tired to build a fire.

  • Yeah once in a while isn't that bad.. but you just ingested a bunch of plastic. They make bags that are designed for boiling.. Ziploc bags are not these kinds of bags.

My buddy Ray all he brought was an axe. They really knew their primitive skills. I will take that over technology anytime.

Why don' t you just cook over the fire...It's free. I used to have a jetboil for the longest time then I went backpacking for real! My friends and I only took 8 items other than our clothing. The other people in my group looked at me funny when I reached for my jetboil. Now I understand why. After cooking on the fire...it kind of connected me with the earth. They also taught me some primitive ways of cooking. It was really fun. Try it out. You won't miss the weight.

  • @rooftopeagle They are awesome! Had mine for 4 years now with no issues whatsoever :)

  • It's almost like you're poaching the egg. Also you might want to be careful with this technique. I don't want to sound like a crazy anti plastic hippie but when soft plastic gets hot it releases a chemical that has been found to cause cancer. Usually you can taste this chemical when the plastic gets really hot like a bottle of water in a hot car. Hince the "plastic" taste. But remember this is only a problem when an extreme amount of the chemical has been digested.

  • That's a great idea!

  • Ok you put plastic in your mouth everyday, Water bottles, Toothbrush, Pens, And what ever else you can think of you chew on. So please stop say that this will harm you. Get over the fact that is a plastic bag.
