Train 1:
MP36PH-3S #412 leads 6 cars south on a Blue Island / Beverly Branch run.

Train 2:
A six-car empty equipment move from the Rocket House shops heads toward La Salle Street Station.

Train 3:
Now this is a strange maneuver that I have not seen before! Running in reverse, F40PH #179 leads 8 cars with their doors open, with F40PHM-2 #202 pushing.

Train 4:
F40PHM-2 #203 leads 8 cars on a southbound express run to Joliet.

Train 5:
On Canadian National's ex-Illinois Central Chicago Sub, CN C44-9W #2546, a fire-scarred Dash-9 #2673, and SD70M-2 #8866, lead train M338, the long Waterloo, Iowa to Homewood (Markham Yard), Illinois manifest, across Metra's Rock Island District.

Train 6:
A five-car Blue Island local heads south.

Train 7:
Six empty bilevels are pushed north from the yard at the Rocket House by F40PHM-2 #204.

Trains 8 and 9:
In and outbound runs with an F40PHM-2 and an MP36PH-3S, respectively, meet at the tower and cross the St Charles Air Line and CN Chicago Sub.

Train 10:
Another empty equipment move heads north into La Salle Street Station. A grand total of 10 cars on this one!

Train 11:
F40PHM-2 #202, the "Village of Orland Hills", leads 8 cars southbound on an express run to Joliet.

Train 12:
Canadian National GP40-2LW (the 'LW' denotes the Canadian-style "safety cab") #9455 leads K953, a Homewood (Markham Yard) to Chicago (Glenn Yard) local / transfer job, across the Rock Island District and the RID - SCAL connector track and around the curve following the Chicago River. Check out the Milwaukee Road boxcar, the CN ballast cars, B&LE hoppers, and some other interesting rolling stock.

Train 13:
Another 10-car empty equipment move heads for La Salle Street Station, preparing for the outbound rush period. My apologies for the sloppy editing... there are duplicates of this clip and the next one- two of the same train for each. Whoops.

Train 14:
An 8-car inbound run is pushed by F40PH #181, the "Village of Schaumburg".

Train 15:
F40PHM-2 #207 pushes 9 cars toward La Salle Street.

Train 16:
MP36PH-3S #406 leads an outbound run.

Train 17:
An inbound 6-car Beverly Branch local run crosses the diamonds.

Train 18:
Amtrak's train #393, the southbound 'Illini' to Champaign-Urbana and Carbondale, Illinois, heads over the Chicago River bridge, down the St Charles Air Line and past 16th Street Tower, across the Rock Island District, and onto the CN Chicago Sub. P42DC #30 ("Dirty Thirty", so nicknamed for obvious reasons!) leads the train of 6 well-matched Horizon coaches through the twisty junction and across the bridge over Clark Street as the signal drops to red. P42DC #127 brings up the rear.

  • WOW! That GP40LW sure had a big train to pull, EMD=Extra Mighty Diesles! Plus that interlocking is a mess! God bless you!
