I think Gods and Generals gave the south a fair portrayal.

@BugMoneyFishing, not only Gods and Generals but Gettysburg did a good job illustrating our true cause.

Because they lost. And deservedly so.

Slaves were not considered part of "the people" Not in south and not in the north. Ol' Abe wanted to ship them all out of the US after the war, but somebody wasn't very happy with him and killed him before he got a chance. He was also going to forgive the south 100% for the war, but again, somebody killed him first.

Damn right. Especially in the armies. To hell with the politicians on both sides though.

I hope you're not watching for a history lesson. It's not a balenced film to say the least. Very few soldiers were like the main character and fighting to end slavery. On the other side almost none of the confederate troops were fighting to keep slavery. A better film to watch for class would be Gettysburg or the mini series North and south, part 1 and 2.
