Glory is a 1989 Academy Award-winning drama based on the history of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment during the American Civil War. Slaves were not considered part of "the people" Not in south and not in the north. Ol' Abe wanted to ship them all out of the US after the war, but somebody wasn't very happy with him and killed him before he got a chance. He was also going to forgive the south 100% for the war, but again, somebody killed him first.
I hope you're not watching for a history lesson. It's not a balenced film to say the least. Very few soldiers were like the main character and fighting to end slavery. On the other side almost none of the confederate troops were fighting to keep slavery. A better film to watch for class would be Gettysburg or the mini series North and south, part 1 and 2.
