As the title would suggest, this is my first try at rendering the Chet head with Subsurface Scattering. Hopefully, I can tweak it to give Chet realistic skin. We'll see how it goes. Comments and critiques are welcome and encouraged!

  • The ears are a little off...but I dont know that maybe your reference is like that.

    But overall...great job.

  • Thanks a lot! I've actually started over pretty much from scratch - I actually used the original mesh as the base and used Blender's Retopo tool to redo the topology...I haven't UV mapped it yet, but I when I do get around to it, I'll post an update. Thanks again for the comments! They are always appreciated!

  • Thanks for the nice words, strgzr53! It seems I have all but abandoned this project, but I think with the coming new year, I'll be ready for an all new effort. I'm trying to keep my expectations low. We'll see what happens!

  • Do you suppose it's dificult for mortal people to make faces on blender that good?

I'm new to it, I havent even started making characters yet.

  • Hey, don't sound so discouraged! This was is my first attempt at a head...If you are trying to duplicate a real person, make sure you have good reference photos. Other than that, I learned as I went using tutorials and a few choice books. Message me if you are interested in more in-depth info! Thanks for your comment!

  • hey nice, but how do u make that amazing sss thing? check my vids out btw.

  • I use the FOSS (Free Open Source Software) 3D modelling, animating, texturing, compositing, etc. package Blender for my 3D work. If I recall correctly, forward and backward Sub-Surface Scattering was added as a shader function in version 2.44, so it makes any material that scatters light under the surface (skin, milk, blood, wax, etc.) look more realistic and less plastic-y. Check it out at blender(dot)org!

  • This guy is on Animal Planet, show about "funny" videos about animals

  • le debieron cerrar un poco la boca

  • Actually, OS don't matter much. Try and get a dual core with as high GHz as possible since thats what really affects rendering speeds.

  • i have to say not bad at all for your first one. ive never played around with that program nor any 3d program, but for sure keep practicing and doing more and more dude. maybe some day you can put your own game out or create a mod for some game that already exists.
