Sirens are female creatures from greek mythology, who attract sailors with their chants. They are discribed in many different ways - sometimes as beautiful women with single attributes of birds or fish, sometimes as winged creatures with a womans head and sometimes they just look like normal women.
There also exist many different interpretations of their character: evil spirits, who seek only the misfortune of men, bringers of death or symbols of harmony and beauty (especially in music).
In modern versions they are often seen as mermaids. Among their older mythological roots are also connections to the idea of harpys and the sphinx to find.
