  • HSAs are a good program allowing people to lower their health insurance premiums by raising their deductibles and self insuring. However as currently configured the tax benefits an HSA accrue disproportionally to the wealthy since they are in the higher tax brackets and HSAs are tax deductible. A better and more equitable way to handle HSAs would be to grant an appropriate % of the HSA as a tax credit. This would level the benifit for both rich and poor.
