A pretty thorough test drive and sound recording of an all-stock, 2004 Dodge Cummins Diesel truck. It's exciting to see what people are doing with diesel technology these days. Just in the last few years they've made unbelievable advancements in cheap horsepower. With an ECU and exhaust upgrade this particular truck could go from the stock 230 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, to well over 600 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque! No joke. Also, when you tune these modern, common-rail diesels like this, your fuel mileage actually goes up--a lot! By around %30 in some cases. You're out maybe $1,000 for parts and an afternoon's worth of work. What engine that runs on gasoline can say that? ...Of course it's worth mentioning that adding this kind of power without first strengthening your transmission and adding a locking rear differential would lead to a Chernobyl-style meltdown of your drive train components. But hey, do some careful research, upgrade with intelligence, and you'll have a seriously quick truck that will also happily tow an extremely heavy trailer up a really steep grade all day without melting anything.
