  • Never really cared for Haydn, an acquired taste. Until just now. Lang-Lang pulled it off, few histrionics, little flamboyance....although loved his at 08:00. He made Haydn made H come alive: I hate to admit, but it's as good as anything Scarlatti wrote. Lang-Lang not only PLAYS but INHABITS, INCORPORATES this piece; say what you may, he delivers the goods..BRAVO

  • every piece Lang lang performs is A SUNRISE, A BABY BIRTH and I THANK GOD HE CREATED SUCH PIANIST.....

  • I always liked this sonata, and Lang Lang really has a great interpretation here ... his special ornaments are very well thought out and his phrasing is superb ...

  • @Natauka44 here Lang Lang was still working and not only playing. I love this piece the way he has played it but nowadays i´m really disappointed from him and his playing.

  • @sagalat Good to know you started enjoying Haydn. I am a fan since I am 10 (I am 34), and I have discovered a rich world with a unique style of composition, going from Vivaldi's remniscence to Schubert's prefiguration. Of course, Haydn has greatly influenced Mozart (other way around also true) but more especially, was a massive source of inspiration for Beethoven, much more that it is said today.

A fantastic composer, one of the greatest.

  • @shnimmuc completly agree.

  • If anyone doesn't know what it means to put feeling into your playing. Watch this video.

  • @apdoshi70 My thoughts exactly! His playing is mostly beautiful (although I can't stand his Rachmaninov), but I just can't look at him. His fake facial expressions drive me nuts. He's just so out there, so obvious: "Hey, this is a slow and frivolous part, so now rather than acting as if I'm either orgasming or mourning my whole family, I'll just kind of smile like an idiot and while we're at it, I'll proceed to obscenely emphasize the fact that I'm not looking at the keys".

  • haha. i always found it difficult to move from the peaceful second movement to the finale of a sonata...

  • @Trihedral Your statement about composition skills is shared by few. Each of the three composers could do compositional things the other could not.

  • Haydn is one of the greatest composers. He is not as "obvious" as Mozart and therefore more difficult to get into.

  • This is the only performance of his that I've enjoyed. Mostly because I was watching his face...what is up with those expressions?? XD
