Do you guys get a reserve chute in case you have problems? 1500ft seems like pretty low altitude.
The very first time I ever flew in an airplane I jumped out! 8)
I'm preparing myself to apply for 153a as a civilian, I want to fly blackhawks.

I was so surprised by the soft landing that I forgot to do a PLF! To see a really bad landing, check out my other video!

How high is that? You were in the air for a while.

I think it was 1500 feet, but the wind was monster that day. Gusts kept us in the air longer than we might otherwise have been. There were a few injuries that day, and half of the battalion ended up in trees or the swamp. (I had three grass landings, but was pretty rattled on the third.) Awesome day for jumping, though.

the rotor wash doesn't fuck with the parachute at all? is it a bit more hair raising jumping from a heli rather than a plane?

By the time your chute deploys, the helicopter is a football field away. (Seems like it anyway.) So no interference from rotor wash. It seems like an intimidating jump, but I think they're the best ones you'll ever make. No prop blast like the C-17s or C-130 door jumps. I've jumped more Black Hawks than anything else (it just shook out that way, I don't know how common that is) and never had a bad experience in one. They're just a ton of fun.
(I was also Air Assault - I love helicopters.)

Thanks for the kind words! You should check out my other jump videos, too. I'm with the 816th Forward Support Company (Airborne), which is a component of the US Army Special Operations Command.
