The text was in response to Zeki Ademoglu's (sp?) bizarre rantings on a Darwin fb page. He, as an acolyte of Harry Yahoo, kept deleting people's responses to his crazy old videos, hence this vid and description box...

Here are some thoughts. Take them or leave them.
It must be difficult for someone with a very fixed worldview to constantly see so much evidence which contradicts the teachings of your book. I know that some of you will be able to compartmentalise differing accounts and ostensibly carry on believing. This is why the majority of Muslim writing today on Astrophysics and Biology will attempt to find links and claim that post-enlightenment theories were already talked about by an illiterate, iron-age bigamist (nothing wrong with that you may argue ;) ).
But those who know their holy books as literal history will find it agonisingly, and understandably, difficult to take in these new ideas. How can evolution be a fact when for it to be tenable the world needs to be billions of years old? Genesis quite clearly states that Everything was created in 6 days as does Sura 11 in the koran, although the writer of Sura 41 apparently felt the creator of everything somewhat more tardy and gives him 8 days for the job. Incidentally, harun yaya's response to this obvious contradiction is pathetic. Feel free to post it though so others might judge it.
As an aside, if god created the mountains in their place (Sura 41 :9) then why did he place the fossils of whales and sea shells at the top of them? Could this be because the (very human) writers of the bible and koran had absolutely _no_ idea about the movement of plate tectonics? Let me answer my own question... Yes.
So this leaves the well-read believer with three choices:
1: Reevaluate holy scripture. Pretend that the word 'day' can mean 'age', 'epoch' or 'aeon' and squeeze their beliefs into current knowledge a little better. But even taking the days as metaphor causes problems, Genesis says that on Day 4 light (i.e. the stars) were created. Now this is quite clever of god because the day before he created dry land and the sea, so he must have done that in the dark. But more seriously, as any fool knows, the heavier elements that make up most of the 'stuff' that is us and rocks etc were created.... in stars!
2: Attack attack attack. This, in theory, is a good thing. There's nothing worse than a lazy scientist. The only way we as a 'species' can progress in our understanding of the universe (which I think is important) is to constantly challenge, refute and thusly strengthen our ideas. Unfortunately for you, you are promulgating the ideas of a liar and fraudster.
