http://www.SimpleSewingProjects.com ~ Watch and learn how to sew a blind hem stitch step by step. A blind hem stitch is the perfect stitch to use when hemming your draperies.
Thankyou! I will have a go at hemming my lycra slacks today. I did use a serged edge, turned and stitched down, but it sure looks thick and noticeable and 'home made'.Time will tell if the hem holds. It is so kind of you to give your time and knowledge. Gran Heather.
The first time I tried the stitch, I grabbed a bit too much of the fabric with the cross-over stitch (the zig-zag), causing a ripple on the front side. So I took out the stitch and tried again, setting the hem to the right a bit so the zig-zag just barely reached across, and the results were much better.
Thanks for this! My sewing machine instruction manual had diagrams for the blind hem stitch but it made it look far too complicated! Right, back to my curtains!
Which thread would show up on the face of the finished project? The bobbin thread, or would I want both upper & bobbin thread the same? Sometimes I just leave the one thread as a neutral & change only the color that will show. Thanks for clearly demonstrating this stitch. I believe it's called the "knife edge" where the blade under the foor rests against the folded fabric.
My machine has that type of stitch!! I always wondered what it was used for. I don't have a blind hem foot, but I wonder if I can still do it with some clever ironing beforehand ;D
Cool video. Speaking of which, did anyone hear about the sewing contest on the Fashion Fantasy Game? I tried it out and it was pretty cool.
