John Gary sings Danny Boy. The tune itself without the lyrics is called Londonderry Air. Again, one of the best versions of this I think. I believe this tune is the Anthem for Northern Ireland, correct me if I'm wrong. I DO NOT OWN THIS SONG AND CLAIM NO COPYWRITE.

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen and down the mountain side
The summer's gone and all the roses falling
It's you, it's you, must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.
But come ye back when all the flowers are dying
if I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me
And all my grave will warm, sweeter be
Or you will bend and tell me that you love me
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.

  • John's performance is flawless. In this richly arranged version the touching suspension and resolution of a profusion of well-chosen chords, as they pivot on single notes and cascade in sparkles around John's voice amid tender instrumental counter melodies, seem to tug at the heart as much as the vocal rendition itself. Hats off to John, AND to the arranger. Wow!

  • The best version ever!

  • @PonyExpressTHIS WELL SPOKEN. WHY, OH WHY, IS HE NOT MORE WELL KNOWN. HOW CAN A HUMAN HAVE MORE TALENT THAN HE. HE HAS REMAINED ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SINGERS. ONLY A HAND FULL OF ACTORS AND SINGER HAVE TRANSCENDED GREATEST, AND HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE CALLED ARTISTS OF THE HIGHEST DEGREE. AGAIN, WELL SAID, PONY, AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.

  • This was my dear old Dad's favorite version of Danny Boy and rightfully so. What a magnificent voice, what a truly stunning rendition. My brother and I visit my Dad's gravesite (who was buried on St. Paddy's Day) every year on St. Paddy's day and this is our departing song. It never ceases to move me to tears.

  • wonderful!

  • What a voice . ' Danny Boy ' seems an easy song to sing

but in reality is very difficult.

John Gary's voice is very beautifully suited to its ' Sota Voce ' phrases .

A truly Golden Voice - crystal clear & effortless .

What a true gift - so sad that he is not with us any longer.
